Responsibilities:

Careers advisers provide advice and guidance services in a range of settings to people who want support in making choices that will affect their working lives.

Typical responsibilities include:

  • Providing appropriate help and advice
  • Assessing personal characteristics, skills and interests via individual interviews
  • Using specialist computer applications & Social media such as LinkedIn
  • Providing advice on CVs, applications and interview techniques
  • Keeping up to date with information about follow-up, status, professional regulation and the jobs market
  • Develop outreach programs to promote career advisement services among students.
  • Respond to student questions pertaining to career development, exploration and placement procedures
  • Educate students on job search skills and industry trends in order to get them prepared for employment.
  • Liaising with colleges, employers and professional organisations
  • Promoting and marketing services via Social media & Linkedin

Key skills:

  • Excellent communication skills – these should include active listening, alongside aptitude for verbal and written communication
  • A non-judgmental manner
  • The ability to motivate people
  • Strong teamwork skills
  • Analytical skills – including the ability to take someone’s interests, experience and preferences, alongside your knowledge, and develop considered suggestions.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience in career advisers in US market
